Theatre Bacchus presents
Love Letters
by A.R. Gurney
A finalist for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, this play centers on two characters, Melissa Gardner and Andrew Makepeace Ladd III, both born to wealth and position. They are childhood friends whose lifelong correspondence begins with birthday party thank-you notes and summer camp post cards.
Using the epistolary form sometimes found in novels, they sit side by side at tables and read the notes, letters and cards – in which over nearly 50 years, they discuss their hopes and ambitions, dreams and disappointments, victories and defeats – that have passed between them throughout their separated lives.
This play has been performed numerous times both on and off Broadway, with many familiar acting stars taking on the roles of Melissa and Andrew, such as Victor Garber, William Hurt, Christopher Walken, Christopher Reeve, Alan Alda, Martin Sheen and Tony Shaloub, Tom Hamks and Rita Wilson, Sally Field, Elizabeth Taylor, Samantha Bee, and Shirley Jones, to name a few!
It is a favourite for charity and benefit performances!
Reviewers have called it, “rare work whose emotional richness requires no embellishment in order to become a full-bodied theatrical experience”.
This one-night only performance is part of a benefit event honouring the beautiful wife and mother of the Mowat Family, Darlene Mowat, who passed away as a result of a tragic accident last July.
Darlene was a VERY special person who loved, and gave thanks for ALL of creation! She was driven to help those in need and just before her death, she had signed up to help at The Village of Hope Organization, which helps local families with all of life's essentials. Therefore, all funds raised will go to this organization in her memory.
This event will take place at Harbour Estates Winery, 4362 Jordan Rd, Jordan Station, ON L0R 1S0, in their beautiful event tent!
This evening promises to be enchanting, commencing with a heartwarming "Cheers to Darlene" welcome toast, followed by a delectable 3-course dinner, culminating in Theatre Bacchus' performance of "Love Letters".
Furthermore, an unmissable Silent Auction and Reverse Raffle will take place.
There is an anticipated attendance of 200 esteemed guests, so get your tickets as soon as they go on sale on April 2!
